I have most of the add-ons (Simple Download Monitor, Email Notification on Download Addon, Squeeze Form Addon).
I changed my site to only include Squeeze forms for download. Eliminated all direct download links. But, I’m still seeing a download, and get a notification, in the log from someone in Vietnam. How could they download it without entering an email address? Nothing shows in the Squeeze Forms Submission log.
Also, could all the merge tags from Squeeze Forms be available for the Email Notification on Download Addon – so I could get an email with their name and/or email address?
If your download items were publicly accessible in the past, simply removing the old links won’t stop downloads completely. This is because those URLs may already have been indexed or cached by users or bots.
To fully hide or protect a file, it’s best to create a new download item that has never been publicly shared. Then, start using the Squeeze Form addon for that new item from the beginning. You can safely delete the old download item and recreate it (even if it’s the same file), since the new item will have a different download ID — meaning the old link will no longer work.
Also, keep in mind that download protection works in layers. Some methods focus on convenience and user-friendliness but offer lighter protection, while others are more robust but may add complexity for users.
