I need to add a download limit per day. Is there a way to set the maximum number of downloads available for users? I have users downloading hundreds of files, and we suspect it is for stealing our designs, not for legitimate engineering purposes.

This plugin doesn’t have a daily limit option. To be honest, that won’t really solve the issue you explained since they will just download it on a daily basis up to the limit. A slightly better solution is to use a user account system so you can ban user accounts when you see unusual behavior from a particular user.

You can use a membership plugin like the following to do a user management/control type setup. So the user will have to log into the site first, then download the item from the download manager plugin:

WordPress Membership Plugin – WP eMember

You can use this in conjunction with the download manager plugin (it is just an example to show you what I am talking about):

Thank you. We do utilize user management software. Our thinking is that limiting or throttling downloads would allow us the time to follow up with the registered user to verify the legitimacy of their download purposes. We have found some download monitors that offer the ability to limit downloads so we will look into those. We appreciate your input.
